The Frith archive was founded by Francis Frith, the pioneer Victorian photographer, in 1860 and today contains over 330,000 photographs taken between 1860 and 1970 of some 7,000 towns and villages throughout Britain. 

This collection included many photographs taken of the area of Eastern Essex covered by this site . many of these photographs are reproduced on this site.

They are all available for purchase from the Francis Frith web site as standard photographs, digital copies are in the shape of great presents as jigsaws , calendars and many other forms. To check the prices just click on the photograph and you will be taken to the Francis Frith web site.

Browsing the pictures on this site is FREE although the images are copyright and so downloading would be unlawful and pointless as the Francis Frith logo is attached to all photographs.
