Crouch Valley Railway Lobbyists 1882
By the late 1800's railways were
developing fast and the residents of Maldon and the Dengie 100 felt
left out of the revolution following the opening of the London to
Norwich Railway lines and the proposals for a London to
Southend line.
The public pressure led to an
open public meeting held on 10 November 1882 at which the Chairman
and Directors of the Great Eastern Railway heard from local
residents about proposals to extend the London to Southend Line with
a link to Southminster and then to Maldon.
The meeting was reported in
the Essex Standard.
Great Eastern were represented
by Mr Parkes ( Chairman) , Mr Charles and Mr Read ( Directors) , Mr
Birt ( General Manager) Mr Hadfield ( Secretary), Mr Fenn (
Solicitor) and Mr Wilson ( Engineer).
The meeting was organised by
Mr J T Gale of Bradwell on Sea assisted by Mr F Bird of Maldon.
