Churches and Chapels Church records of Births Marriages and Deaths (BMD) are an important record for people looking up their family history. If your ancestors ceremony took place in a Parish Church of the Church of England records are comparatively easy to reach. The vast increase in non conformist religions from the middle 1700's to the early 1900's meant that many people chose to use non conformist Chapels for their ceremonies. This would cause no problem after 1837 when BMD were recorded by the state but before this date the only record would be in the non conformist church records. A page on this web site lists Parish Church records which contains details of the dates that each parish holds BMD records This page lists both churches and Chapels in the villages to help provide the next place to look in case your ancestor is not listed in the Parish Records Information has been gathered from a variety of sources to compile this list. Although care has been taken to be as accurate as possible, it is possible that some chapels may have been missed or incorrect dates supplied.
