This
election was one of the most hotly contested for
years with 24 candidates vying for the 500 votes on
offer.
The hot
issue was to do with the River and its use with
parties in favour of the status quo with priorities
to the Oyster Fisheries and parties with the
priority of making Burnham Yachting Station
attracting tourism.
The
Unionist Group favouring the Oyster merchants was
Mssrs Ambrose, Cook, Croxton, Flick, John Hawkins,
Lee, Newman, P Richmond, A Richmond, J T Rogers and
J B Richmond.
The
Progressive group (Charles
and E Read) ran a campaign aimed at a
recreation ground and allotments .
